Insect Resistance Management
Requirements and Options for Herculex™ I, Herculex® Xtra,
YieldGard® Corn Borer, YieldGard® Plus, YieldGard VT Triple™ |
- Common refuge for YieldGard® Plus, YieldGard VT Triple™, or Herculex® Xtra hybrids should not contain B.t. technology to control corn borers or rootworms. Separate refuges for YieldGard® Plus hybrids require 20 percent of YieldGard® Plus acres be planted to hybrids not containing B.t. technology for rootworm control, but may contain B.t. technology for corn borer IF a refuge of 20 percent of the total corn borer protected areas (YieldGard® Plus, Yieldgard® Corn Borer, Herculex™ I, Herculex® Xtra and YieldGard VT Triple™) is planted to hybrids not containing B.t. technology for corn borer control.
- Plant the refuge within half a mile (one-quarter mile preferred) of the YieldGard® Corn Borer, Herculex™ I, Herculex® Xtra, YieldGard® Plus, or YieldGard VT Triple corn.
- Refuge can be a block or in-field strip (four consecutive rows minimum, six rows preferred, in each strip). YieldGard® Plus minimum is six rows, preferably twelve rows.
- Planting a refuge is an EPA requirement for YieldGard® Corn Borer, Herculex™ I, and YieldGard® Plus corn.
